  • 4 slices white or wheat bread cubed
  • 1 sleeve saltine crackers crushed (optional, for texture)
  • For the Dressing Mix:
  • ½ cup 1 stick unsalted butter
  • 1 medium onion finely chopped
  • 2 stalks celery finely chopped
  • 2 teaspoons poultry seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon dried sage or more, to taste
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups chicken or turkey broth plus more as needed
  • 2 large eggs beaten

Instructions
 

  • Step 1: Preheat And Prep
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
  • Step 2: Sauté Vegetables
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter.
  • Add onions and celery; sauté for 5-7 minutes until soft and fragrant.
  • Step 3: Mix the Dressing
  • In a large bowl, combine crumbled cornbread, bread cubes, and crushed saltine crackers.
  • Stir in poultry seasoning, sage, black pepper, and salt.
  • Add the sautéed vegetables (with butter) and mix well.
  • Pour in the chicken broth gradually until the mixture is moist but not soggy.
  • Stir in the beaten eggs and mix until fully incorporated.
  • Step 4: Bake
  • Pour the mixture into the greased baking dish and spread evenly.
  • Bake for 35-45 minutes, until golden brown and set in the middle.
