Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the garlic and sauté for 1 minute, until fragrant.
  • Add the chopped spinach to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes until wilted. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  • In a medium mixing bowl, combine the cooked spinach, cream cheese, Parmesan cheese, mozzarella cheese, oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir until well combined.
  • Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Spread the spinach and cheese mixture evenly over the entire surface of the pastry.
  • Carefully fold the pastry in half, sealing the edges. Use a sharp knife or pizza cutter to slice the pastry into 1-inch wide strips.
  • Twist each strip gently and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to create an egg wash. Brush the tops of each twist with the egg wash for a golden, glossy finish.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the twists are golden and puffed.
  • Serve warm as an appetizer or snack.

Notes

  • For an extra savory flavor, sprinkle some extra grated Parmesan over the twists just before baking.
  • You can substitute frozen spinach (thawed and squeezed dry) for fresh spinach if preferred.
  • These twists are best served warm but can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat them in the oven for a few minutes to crisp them up again.
  • Add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the spinach filling if you like a bit of heat.
