- 1 lb ground beef or ground turkey
- ½ medium onion finely chopped
- ½ green bell pepper finely chopped (optional)
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- ¾ cup ketchup
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp yellow mustard or Dijon
- Salt and pepper to taste
- ½ tsp chili powder optional, for mild heat
- 4 –6 hamburger buns

- Brown the Beef 
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat. 
- Add Veggies & Garlic 
- Stir in onion, bell pepper (if using), and garlic. Cook 3–4 minutes, until softened. 
- Make It Sloppy 
- Stir in ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, brown sugar, chili powder, and a pinch of salt and pepper. 
- Simmer on low for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened. 
- Toast the Buns (Optional) 
- Lightly butter and toast hamburger buns in a skillet or oven for extra flavor. 
- Serve 
- Spoon the sloppy joe mixture generously onto the buns. Serve immediately!
